Rebuilding Our School Community – WE NEED YOUR HELP! 

It was lovely to have so many of you in school this week for our ‘Meet the Teacher’ share sessions! Attendance was higher than we can remember, even before the beginning of the pandemic, and we had so many positive comments which we really appreciate. We are looking forward to hosting lots more events throughout the year, whilst of course keeping all of our children, families and staff safe (our updated risk assessment, requiring you to confirm a negative lateral flow test before attending an indoor event, is on our website). 

One of our main targets for this year is to rebuild our school community by giving our pupils, parents, staff and governors at least as many opportunities to help make our school better as they had before the pandemic. Here are five ways you can get involved and make a difference to your child’s education: 

1. Throughout the pandemic, a very small number of parents and staff have done their best to keep our PTA (Parent & Teacher Association) going, still managing to raise thousands of pounds to benefit your child despite all of the restrictions! Now, we need to form a new PTA committee and get as many of you involved as possible, so please come along to our first meeting on Monday 27th September at 3:30pm. Without a PTA, the children will miss out on trips, events and equipment, so please help us to help them! 
2. We have one space for another Parent Governor on our Governing Body: this is a group of volunteers who meet once every half term to work with Mr Perkins and other staff to find out more about what the school is doing well and to support us to make Laureate even better! If you are interested in becoming a governor and would like to find out more, please come and have a chat to Mr Perkins or Mrs Dalton. 
3. We would love to start having volunteers in class again, for example to listen to children read; as with other events, we would request that you confirm a negative lateral flow test each time you come in, and regular volunteers will receive additional training and support. If you are interested, please speak to your child’s teacher or a member of the Senior Leadership Team. 
4. Please join in with school events which are designed to help you and your child to feel part of our school community, and to make Laureate an important part of the wider community: for example, please support our annual ‘Two Cans’ appeal by donating to our collection for Newmarket Open Door Food Bank. 
5. Let us know what you’re happy with, and what we can do even better, by coming along to our termly ‘Coffee, Cake and Chat’ sessions with Mr Perkins, which resume on Wednesday 29th September.
